What started as a random doodle got wildly out of control. It looks like I’ll be shoving any remotely bug-shaped Pokemon into jars for a while. Stop by every once and again to see how things are coming along, or just watch my social media to see them as they’re done!

The Art of Peter Pan
There are very few people who are not familiar with the boy who refused to grow up. The story of Peter Pan is close to our hearts: a memorial to our childhoods—and to the children we still are.
Walt Disney's animation is so popular it seems to overshadow James M. Barrie’s original story. When someone says Peter Pan it’s usually Disney’s version that jumps to mind: red hair, green suit, a pointed hat with a red feather. It was in 1953 that Disney got ahold of Peter Pan, and the version of the world and characters he created has been the prevailing one ever since.

I should not have drawn this.
There's so much writing stacked up for me to work on right now: Concerning Bycatch is still running full steam, paving the way for writing full length novels of my own; I've officially begun work on Aunt Lira's Stuffy which I intend to publish by the end of the year; and there's a whole shoal of short stories floating around my head just waiting to be preened and polished for submission to various writing magazines. So of course I work on art. I mean, it only counts as procrastination if you have nothing to show for it, right?
This piece is actually the back-drop for a much bigger project. I'll lay out more details when I get around to working on it properly, but for now, I'll just say it's another animation attempt. Even though I really didn't have time to be making stuff like this now I'm glad to have it done. It moves the project from the realm of 'potentially good idea' to 'project to be done in the future' even if it takes a while to get around to it. I've been wanting to do this for a long time and even that small shift feels very good.

Winter Pines
I picked up Krita again over the weekend. I've used the software before and liked it, but actually sitting down at a computer and painting can be difficult. I usually use my Ipad for coloring: it's handy, portable, and easy to pick up or set down as the day allows. I have an app I very much like called Paper53; It has one of the best traditional brush sets I've seen, and with a bit of persuading, can turn out lovely results.
All of my early art was colored that way, having something functional only made it harder to dedicate the time to sitting in front of a computer. As it turns out though, I had no idea what I was missing.
Initial values test.

Dabbles in Animation
Traditional animation has been an interest of mine for a long time.
I have quite a few stabs at it lying around: tests, half planned project, little clips I couldn't get out of my head. No matter how busy I get, or where my life goes, I'm always drawn back to the little moving doodles.
As far as profession goes, animation fell to writing a long time ago. When push comes to shove, raw storytelling is my first love and prose the best vehicle for it, but the idea of seeing your stories walk around in front of you is such a happy one. To step that little bit further into the worlds you pour your heart into, and this time be able to take others with you, feels like a fairytale.
But what are we all doing here if not chasing fairytales? So what if you can't make a living off if it? That's what hobbies are for.
